The Bryers and Walkers are a side-branch of the Hewitt family, filled with many interesting personalities. The photographs of these three self-assured children are from the Archives of the Crossley-Heath Orphan School at Halifax, West Yorkshire.

The genealogy briefly stated is:

Thomas Hewitt (1800-1877) m. Mary Thalia Eaton (1801 – 1885) (dates  may be slightly off – please see the Hewitt page for accuracy).

Children born to Thomas Hewitt and Mary Thalia Eaton Hewitt:

Eliza m. George Goodwin (many descendants in New Zealand and Australia)

Mary m. Alfred Bryer

Sarah m. Matthew Walwyn Walker

Thomas Eaton m. twice (both wives died young)

Benjamin m. Mary Ann Brindley

Catherine unmarried.

Two daughters and descendants of Thomas and Mary Thalia are featured on this page:Mary m. Alfred Bryer and  Sarah m. Mathew Walwyn Walker

When Thomas Hewitt died in 1877, he left money to Mary Thalia.

About the same year, daughter Mary’s husband Alfred Bryer died prematurely, and he also left a large sum of money.

The three widows, Mary Thalia Hewitt, Mary Bryer, and Sarah Walker, lived beside each other. They used the money primarily to educate their children so far as can be seen from the records.
